Piper and Sloan’s Litter is home

Chestnut, now “Copper” at home.

August 24, 2017 – All of the pups have left and the puppy pen is empty. Always a sad time here. We won’t have any more puppies until 2018 as we take some time to rest. We are so thankful to all of the people that found us and are now taking great care of the pups we raised! We are happy to say that the families of Riley and Piper’s litters have helped us donate another $3,000.00 to Amazima Ministries to help some children in Uganda eat, learn and LIVE! We are now enjoying all the updates and contact with our families as we watch the pups grow through pictures and emails. If you want to see how they pups are doing, take a look at our Doodlemonials page where we’ve posted some of the updates!

August 15, 2017 – Our puppy pen is emptying out quickly it seems, with a couple of pups leaving each day. We’re continuing to work on crate training, sitting, and coming for treats and the pups are doing well! Several of Piper’s puppies have left already. But I managed to take a picture of Chestnut who’s still hanging out with us. 🙂 It’s a bitter sweet week as we say good-bye to each pup. Here’s Chestnut at eight weeks old!

August 9, 2017 – Piper’s puppies are working on their crate training and we also recorded new weights on each pup. They’re doing well!

Hazelnut – 6 lbs. 5 oz. (Hazelnut has consistently weighed the most since birth.)

Macadamia – 5 lbs. 13 oz.

Pistachio, 5 lbs. 10 oz.

Chestnut, 6 lbs. 1 oz.

Pecan, 5 lbs. 11 oz.

Cashew, 5 lbs.  (Cashew has consistently weighed in the smallest since birth.)

August 7, 2017 – Piper’s puppies were a little slow at getting their teeth, but now we’ve turned a corner and they are almost entirely on kibble now (mama still goes in there to nurse once or twice a day). They seem more settled on full tummies. We let them each have turns going into the other pen with Riley’s puppies to play and interact, and sometimes we let them all out run around and play together in the open room with toys. They’ve done well at finding their way back to the litter box even when we do that. A good sign of smart puppies! We’re working on sitting for treats with them and they seem to be learning quickly. It’s going to take continual reinforcement of making them sit for attention and treats over the next 10 days to solidify what we’re trying to accomplish. The emotional conditioning piece seems to have been so successful. They don’t seem to startle at anything we present to them. Sudden movements, loud sudden noises (like intentionally slamming doors or dropping a stack of books) don’t rattle them all. All good signs. Here the are at seven weeks old!

August 1, 2017 – The puppies are six weeks old and we are continuing to work on socialization! They’re loving people, longing to be held and seem to melt in our arms. They’ve grown in confidence and we can see that as they play and they vocalize that they want to be picked up. I carry them around the house to give them time apart from their litter mates. They love just sitting in laps and we love that too.  They are slowly getting their teeth, eating a bit more kibble and we’re waiting for them to get teeth so that we can start working with them more on the positive reward phase.  Here they are, totally cute, for sure.

July 24, 2017 – The puppies crossed into the next stage at five weeks old. Fear sets in at five weeks old, but as far as we can see, we’ve done our work conditioning them and they don’t seem fazed at all by baths, blow dryers, vacuums, new people walking in or new sounds. They seem confident already. This is our continued goal. This week they started on kibble in between nursing sessions. They have their teeth (mostly) and have moved into a larger pen along with a litter box. There’s a crate in their pen and they are getting used to the small confinement of it, which will launch them into further crate training at our house. They understand the litter box thing and use it most of the time. Rarely an accident outside of it. Here they are at five weeks old.

July 17, 2017 – The puppies are four weeks old today and they keep getting cuter! They are wrestling and playing, totally aware of everyone that comes in and out of the room. They startle a bit and we’re working on all the emotional conditioning through new sounds and experiences and watching they’re “recovery time” with each startle til they get to the “So what??” attitude that we like. 🙂  They are starting to bond with us, and coming toward us to be pickup instead of shying away. All good!  We introduce them to new toys each day, and we bought them a new bed, and they love it.  Often, we find them all lounging together and we all think they look so cute in it!  Here they are at four weeks old!

July 16, 2017 – Tomorrow, we’ll take more individual photo shots of each puppy. But here’s a look of the cuteness we’re seeing! We bought them a new bed, and looks like they’re enjoying it! How can I not love what I do?  Look at this guy!

July 10, 2017 – We had lots of people visiting this weekend and Piper’s pups got lots of attention and holding. They’re three weeks old now, and a new critical phase has begun and we are determined to introduce them to lots of unique experiences, sounds and people over the next two weeks before fear sets in (estimated to happen at 5 weeks of age!). We take this time very seriously in the pup’s life as we know we can help set them up with a great foundation to last for the rest of their lives. Their eyes and ears are open, hearing and seeing, taking it all in. Once fear sets in, things change and we could lose out on some critical emotional conditioning. They are all trying to walk, but don’t quite have it down. A bit wobbly. Today we wormed them, weighed them (they are all weighing in around the same), held them lots and …. took pictures! Are you ready for this?  Here they are at three weeks old.

July 3, 2017 – Happy Fourth of July! We’ll be protecting our dogs tonight and tomorrow from the trauma of loud fireworks in the neighborhood. Our house is pretty quiet but a fan and all doors and windows closed will help protect from the sounds of this great holiday. Tomorrow we’re staying close to home with lots of friends coming over to help hold and socialize the pups!

At two weeks old, Piper’s puppies have just opened their eyes, one one of them (Pecan) is starting to walk and they are well on their way through the Bio-Sensor program. They’ve had lots of baths and lots of holding. Still sleeping all day long, and we hardly hear a peep out of them. Ahhhhh.  🙂

Here they are at two weeks old!

June 26, 2017 – Piper’s puppies arrived a week ago and we’re watching them thrive! Their noses are turning black and their features are becoming more apparent. It’ll be a week or so before we see their eyes. We’re working on the Bio-Sensor program with each one of them daily. Piper is a great mama and rarely leaves their side. She’s super attentive and gentle with them. (Not a surprise!) They are all pretty close in color at this point:  dark red with cute white markings. All weighing in close in size. Here they are!

June 20, 2017  –  We’re happy to post pictures and updates on our new litter from Piper and Bedrock’s Sloan! Can we say that we’re nuts about this litter?  Welcome to our world little Hazelnut (girl), Chestnut (boy), Macadamia (girl), Pistachio (girl), Pecan (boy), and Cashew (boy). All weighed in close to 11 oz and are doing well with their mama. Here are some pictures of the litter on their first day of life.

Pregnant Piper

June 19, 2017 –   Piper was pretty restless last night and acting “weird.”  Crawling way under our best, panting. So we knew she was getting closer to labor. Well, she’s started delivering pups today! The first one arrived at 12:45 pm. and she finished delivering puppies by around 7 pm. We have six solid red pups (with some slight white markings on some) that all seem healthy. They all latched on to mama immediately and have been nursing well. Mama is resting with her pups. A busy day. Very exciting around here!  A picture of the litter will be posted tomorrow.
