Emery and Gunner’s pups are with their forever families

August 13, 2018 – All of Emery’s puppies went home last week, most are living in the Northwest, but one, Snickers is living on the opposite side of the country with a great family near Washington D.C.. We’re hearing good reports all around and the pups are adjusting to their new forever, families.

We’re always excited to launch another litter to go home to families to become therapy dogs, best friends, and family members to people that had a void in their home or heart for a new pup. We’re so appreciative of the great people we meet in this business and the wonderful families that come to take home a new family member out of one of our litters. Emery and Gunner produced some outstanding pups in every way! We’re thankful to Emery’s guardian family and our helpers that gave so many hours to raise these pups, and now, we know the new families will do an excellent job to finish the job! Don’t forget the importance of continuing crate training, socializing and giving lots and lots of positive reinforcement. And keep in touch.

As I look at the pictures below, I can’t help but sense that each pup went exactly where they were supposed to go.Because of the families involved in this litter, many children in Uganda will be fed, loved and educated. They’ll get to live! A sum of $2,400 is being donated to Amazima Ministries in honor of these pups and families. xo from all of us at Valley Vineyard!

August 3, 2018 – This week we had lots of visitors again, along with our regular helpers that come almost daily to help with training and care. We had special guests come this week though:  Amazima Ministries (the Uganda ministry we support with each puppy adopted) came to visit and give us a thank you for our support. That was special that they singled us out for a visit. (I think they wanted to see these cutie pies!)

This week we focused on getting the pups used to the feel of a leash, and we worked on crate training, “come” and sitting. We spend lots of time at this stage pulling each pup out of the pen away from the litter to get them more focused on human training and interaction without the distraction of the pack. They’re all doing well!  We’ve kept notes on what we’re seeing. Thought it important as we are nearing selection day. Keep in mind that pups within a litter all develop at different stages and so some that are more confident may appear smarter or more advanced, yet the other pups are just a step behind. They will all catch up!  We’re watching mainly for great temperaments on each – and that we see on every single puppy for sure! Each loves to be held, is loving, affectionate and gentle, and very drawn to human touch and interaction. They are all smart and comfortable with strangers.  Now for personalities….. here are some notes we took on each this week.

Twix – Calm and attentive. Not very vocal at all, except in the crate. Takes about five to ten minutes to settle in the crate. Is excellent at “manding” (sitting for attention and human interaction). Did great on the leash. Follows, watches closely and was excellent to “come” when called. A wonderful pup!

Snickers – Incredibly loving, loves kisses and tail goes crazy with excitement at every opportunity to be up close snuggling with a human. Energetic and so fun. She is smart and though she can figure out how to get out of the pen, she only works to escape the pen when I am in the room and she wants to be with me. All night long, she stays in the pen, though I’m sure she could find her way out if she tried. She is small and adventurous. Did excellent at “come,” follows and is comfortable on the leash. Doesn’t like individual crate time because she wants to be with everybody all the time. We’ll continue to work on that.

Whatchamacallit – Not quite as confident yet. She loves to be held and is happiest in somebody’s arms. When put down for training time, she is more uncertain and distracted. She was the last born and is more of a follower than a leader. She loves people, and looks for us humans to make her feel secure. Her temperament is gentle and loving. At times, she is vocal in wanting us to pick her up. She has a smoother coat which is most desirable with less matting and maintenance. She will mature into a beautiful and sweet pup as we work on her confidence.

Kit Kat seems most like Snickers. They are alike in energy and spunk. Kit Kat is smart and does great with us with “come” and is so interactive with humans, wanting to play and learn with us. She is more vocal, whining to be picked up sometimes. She does pretty well in the crate by herself. Not crazy about the leash yet. We’ll keep working on that. This girl loves to play and chase and the leash kind of cramps her style. She is confident and loves people.

Heath has been so calm and quiet and though he is the biggest, he is not the leader. He watches, is cautious and studies before feeling confident. He is incredibly sweet and easy to snuggle with. He loves the comfort of human arms. Not as crazy about being alone in the crate yet. He does excellent with basic training like the leash and “come.”  He sits nicely for us to communicate his needs.

Butterfinger has a smoother, sleeker coat and will probably have less matting as an adult. Butterfinger does great at following and enjoys walking time on the leash. Butterfinger is gaining in confidence. He does well with “come” and sitting for attention. Crate time is hard for Butterfinger and we’ll continue to work on building his confidence to be alone, away from us and the pack. Butterfinger is sweet and loving (like they all are!).

Baby Ruth stands out as very calm and quiet. Super attentive, waiting patiently while sitting to get attention. Very sweet and loving towards humans. Starting to see her calmness as more of a cautious personality. She isn’t as sure of everything so waits and watches. She is very smart. She is not needy or whiney, not a whimper in the crate. Working on confidence with this sweet pup to be more sure of herself in training and on the leash. She’d rather just stay in your arms.

Tootsie Roll – Can I just say “ditto” on everything written about Baby Ruth?  Except Tootsie Roll may have just a bit more confidence than Baby Ruth. She finds leash time fun, not restricting. She loves following on the leash. Like Baby Ruth, she is smart and sits well, and has no problems so far being alone in the crate. A great little pup.

Will add our seven week photo shoot this weekend.  🙂 But here are some highlights of our week.

The Bell family, from Amazima Ministries, paid us a visit.

Notice Baby Ruth bundled up in the bed and blanket. She loved it.

One of our young helpers gave a bath to each pup. Thank you Kelsey and Avril for all the love you gave all our pups this week!

July 29, 2018 – This week has been a week of visitors, crate training, desensitizing and “manding” (learning to sit without us asking, communicating their wants by sitting and waiting).  To end this week, this afternoon we had foreign exchange students from Japan come by to visit the pups and we ended the day with family and friends over with puppies being passed around at the dinner table. This is all important socialization! We’re tired and so are the puppies. Here are the pictures we took this weekend showing how they look at six weeks old. So cute!

July 21, 2018 – Emery’s puppies will be five weeks old tomorrow. They are doing very well. They all have teeth and are eating kibble and using the litter box. They’ve been desensitized to scary noises like storms, shouting (ha! we have a recording for that), fireworks, vaccuums, blowdryers and more. They love to be held and they’ve been held a LOT! They are playful at this age, chasing the ball, wrestling and playing with their toys. They bark and growl a little at each other and it’s fun to watch. Snickers is the most playful and curious at this stage and there are subtle clues to personalities, but it’s still too early to tell. We’re feeling really good about their temperament. They just love to relax in our arms and they show no fear of new people. The quickly recover when we startle them (that’s one of the temperament tests) and overall, we are thrilled with them. So cute, doing well and they are getting ready to come home!  Today they had a bath and a blow dry (a pretty regular thing) and this week will be a car ride and lots more emotional conditioning to prepare them for their forever families.  Here they are at five weeks old.

July 16, 2018 – Four weeks ago today, these pups entered our world and we’re glad they did! They are utterly adorable. You can see by the pictures how cute they are, but they are also so soft and love to be held. They are complete with the Bio-sensor program. We’ve on to more emotional conditioning this week. They got their hearing earlier in the week, so we started working on desensitizing them to all kinds of sounds. They are already used to all the loud noises they are introduced to and don’t react with any anxiety. This is all very good. They chill when being held and are comfortable being held by anybody. Lots of socialization has already occurred with them and we’re very happy with their great progress! They are now active, walking, wrestling and playing with toys; much more interactive than they were a week ago. They continue to gain weight, are starting to get teeth and started on some mushy kibble this weekend. They are also starting to learn to go potty in the litter box, and this helps keep them and their pen really clean. Weights continue to be pretty steady and similar. Here they are at four weeks old! We love these pups!

July 8, 2018 – Three weeks old today and time is flying by! Maybe not for the families waiting. 🙂  The pups are so plump and healthy – I know we said that in previous posts – but truly a great looking, healthy batch of pups! They’re gaining weight regularly and getting stronger every day. They are standing and even starting to walk now. There really isn’t a runt in this litter (unusual) and they all are very close in weight and size. The litter box is being set up so they can start learning to go in a specific place and to learn to respect their sleep and play area. Emery continues to be a good mama; staying nearby always. She’s gentle and careful where she steps or lays, and attends to them when she hears them whine. Not a lot to report yet, as they’ve just started to become more active. But there will be more action soon! Here they are at three weeks old.

Soon they’ll start to separate from each other more and become more adventurous.

July 1, 2018 – Emery’s puppies are two weeks old today and their eyes are open! They are one of the plumpest, strongest groups of pups we can remember. A great, healthy litter. They are doing well with their daily bio-sensor program steps and becoming very comfortable with humans. They are held a lot and Emery stays close by. She’s super attentive to her babies. At this point, they still mostly sleep, but they are strong enough that once in a while, they’ll try to stand. They’ll continue spending most of their days sleeping for about another week, and then the fun really begins!  Here they are at two weeks old.

June 24, 2018 – The puppies are one week old today and doing very well. They are nice and plump and look really healthy; with little variance in weight. They’re gaining weight steadily and nursing well. The pups are being held daily now and we are doing the Bio-sensor program with each one. Emery is being a good mama, as expected. She is gentle with them and very attentive. You can tell by their pictures that their noses and pigmentation is turning black. Looks like everyone will have a black nose. June 18, 2018 – Last night at around 8:30 p.m., our Emery delivered her final puppy for the day. Labor started in the morning and was uneventful and she did well. We now have 8 beautiful pups, 3 black and 5 caramel, that appear to be healthy and thriving. As planned, Emery’s guardian family (our dear friends) helped Emery with all the whelping. They will help raise the litter for the first few weeks as they’ve done in the past. They’ll begin the neurological stimulation through the Bio-Sensor program beginning at day three, and will be there to hold and massage puppies daily until we take over and the pups are brought to us for continued emotional conditioning in our home. But more importantly, you want to see pictures! So here they are. Our theme name for the litter this time is “The Candy Bar Litter,” because they’re so sweet. 🙂  We welcome to this world:  Twix (black girl) Snickers (caramel girl), Heath (caramel boy), Kit Kat (light caramel girl), Butterfinger (light caramel boy), Baby Ruth (black girl), Tootsie Roll (black girl), and Whatchamacallit (caramel girl)!
